Welcome Remarks of the Ambassador

Dear Visitor,

Welcome to our website. 

It is a special honor for me to serve my country as ambassador in Malaysia from September 2025 and to represent Hungary in Malaysia, the Southeast Asian country that holds the ASEAN chairmanship. Malaysia as a leading voice of the Global South plays an increasingly significant role on the international stage, relative to its size, just like Hungary.

Since 1995, I have been engaged with the Southeast Asian region as a scholarship student, as a scientific researcher pursuing doctoral studies, and later as a diplomat. Amid the shifting global power balance, Asia's geopolitical importance has grown remarkably. For our balanced Asian foreign policy and effective foreign economic advocacy it is of great significance that we continue to nurture and develop cooperation with the countries of the region in political, economic, and cultural fields. Malaysia is a key founding member of ASEAN and one of the region’s crucial economic players.

Beyond political relations, our Embassy closely monitors economic developments in Malaysia. Despite the challenging global economic environment, we are pleased that our bilateral relations are excellent and rest on a solid foundation. As ambassador, alongside further energizing political, cultural, and educational ties with the host country, I place particular emphasis on promoting Hungarian foreign economic interests. Diplomatic work in Kuala Lumpur often goes beyond maintaining bilateral relations. Malaysia serves as a hub for regional trade and tourism, attracting an increasing number of Hungarian citizens. My colleagues and I pay special attention and care to them through our consular services.

Hungary remains a steady point in an increasingly uncertain world. Our partners and friends can continue to rely on cooperation based on mutual respect and pragmatism. In 2025, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the reopening of the Embassy of Hungary in Kuala Lumpur, in 2026 the 35th anniversary of the Embassy’s establishment, and, in 2029 the 60th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. The diplomatic presence is justified by the fact that the mentality between the two nations is far closer than geographic distance would suggest. It is in this spirit that I strive to achieve the abovementioned goals and wish to contribute to deepening trust between our compatriots and the Malaysian people, as well as fostering a deeper mutual understanding.
