As part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and Malaysia, H.E. Attila Káli, Ambassador of Hungary to Malaysia recently headed a delegation during an official visit to Kuching, Sarawak. To celebrate the important milestone, the Embassy of Hungary in Kuala Lumpur, together with University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), co-hosted a Gala Concert.

The concert featured a special Hungarian flute-piano performance by Ms Tímea Fábián and Ms Ildikó Bokor, who founded their duo during their university years in Hungary. The event drew a large audience, received remarkable compliments and a standing ovation. This exclusive cultural event has enabled Hungary to have an even more visible presence in the cultural scene of Sarawak, a place with a very unique, colourful and vibrant cultural life.

During this visit, H.E. Attila Káli paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, Governor of Sarawak to discuss priority issues of mutual interest regarding the close bilateral cooperation between Hungary and Malaysia. He also had a meeting with YB Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industry Terminal & Entrepreneur Development of Sarawak to discuss the potential future trade collaboration.

In order to deepen the economic cooperation between the Hungarian and Malaysian business community in Sarawak, the Economic Section of the Embassy, throughout the visit to Kuching, introduced the Hungarian company Smarthub, which represents multiple Hungarian startups in the Southeast Asian region, to various Sarawakian stakeholders, mainly to property developers. The meetings proved that there is an openness from Sarawak’s businesses to explore and implement new solutions that will eventually benefit the people of Sarawak.
